COVID-19
Standing Strong Against COVID-19 and Infectious Diseases in Our Community
The Northeast Ohio Black Health Coalition (NEOBHC) remains on the frontlines of
public health, fighting COVID-19 and other infectious diseases with a focus on
Black communities and underserved urban neighborhoods. As we move through
Summer and prepare for Fall 2025, NEOBHC is committed to sharing the latest
medical and public health guidance from U.S. experts (CDC, NIH).
COVID-19 is no longer the crisis it once was, but it continues to cause hundreds of
deaths and thousands of hospitalizations in the United States each week.
Meanwhile, other viruses like influenza (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and
mpox (monkeypox) remain serious concerns.
Vaccination is our strongest weapon against all of these illnesses, and NEOBHC
has been a passionate advocate—hosting vaccine clinics, distributing protective
supplies, and educating our neighbors—to ensure communities of color are not
left behind. We have learned hard lessons during the pandemic about health
disparities, and we are more determined than ever to address them head-on with
culturally proficient outreach and support.
Public health guidance today focuses on targeted protection: ensuring those
most vulnerable (like the elderly or immunocompromised) stay up to date on
vaccines and have access to treatments. It’s also about personal
responsibility—staying home when sick, testing if you have symptoms, and
wearing a mask in high-risk settings can still help protect our community’s elders
and medically fragile members.
